Slugs, Unalaska Island Postcard
Unalaska Island has a lot of slugs. The soft bodied mollusks grow to over an inch in length. Slugs will eat just about anything, but one of their favourite foods is mushrooms, which makes them the bane of mushroom hunters. Often, to harvest edible boletes a mushroom hunter has to go high up on the mountain slopes to find specimens which haven't been decimated by voracious slugs. The slugs in this photo are consuming a mushroom which was growing in a lawn in the City of Unalaska, Alaska.
