Sir Thomas More Poster

Sir Thomas More, by Hans Holbein the Younger. Sir Thomas More, born on February 7, 1478, in London, was a prominent figure in the Renaissance era and a key advisor to King Henry VIII. He received a classical education and studied law, eventually entering the legal profession. More's intellect and erudition earned him recognition, and he became a member of the English Parliament. In 1529, he was appointed Lord Chancellor, the highest legal office in England. More's most famous work, "Utopia," published in 1516, explored ideas of an ideal society, reflecting his humanist beliefs. Despite his commitment to intellectual pursuits, More's life took a tragic turn when he found himself at odds with King Henry VIII over matters of conscience. More opposed Henry's desire to annul his marriage to Catherine of Aragon and break with the Catholic Church. This conflict escalated as Henry pursued religious and political changes, including the establishment of the Church of England. More's refusal to endorse the king's actions led to his resignation as Lord Chancellor in 1532. The turning point in More's life came in 1534 when he refused to swear an oath recognizing Henry VIII as the Supreme Head of the Church of England. This principled stand led to More's arrest, trial, and ultimately his execution on July 6, 1535. Thomas More was canonized as a saint by the Catholic Church in 1935, recognizing his martyrdom for his religious beliefs. His life, portrayed in literature and film, continues to captivate scholars and enthusiasts alike, commemorating a man whose integrity and moral courage left an indelible mark on history.

Poster is printed clearly, good quality . Inclusive of many prints . The shipping was the problem. Box was flimsy and item got bent.. only suggestion would have been to put in a canister or mark fragile. Printing was exactly as shown
