Sinaia Postcard

Peles Castle, Sinaia, Romania The Renaissance revival style castle was built as a royal residence the between 1873 and 1883. Later several other smaller palaces and mansions were built near the first palace. The complex has its own electrical plant on the Peles Creek. After the abdication of las the last Romanian king, Michael I, most of the buildings hosted Romanian cultural celebrities during their vacations. The Peles castle was opened to the tourism. During the Ceaucescu regime the complex was closed to the public and was declared a state protocol area. After the revolution of 1989 the main building was returned to the "tourist industry". Some small palaces were transformed into hotels but one of them is still used as presidential residence.
