Signal Hill Canada Postcard

Signal Hill overlooks the historic city of St. John's and the vast Atlantic Ocean, serving as a site of immense military and communications history. It is most famous for being the location where Guglielmo Marconi received the first transatlantic wireless signal in 1901, forever changing global communication. The hilltop is crowned by Cabot Tower, a Gothic Revival structure built of rough-hewn stone. From this vantage point, the rugged cliffs of the Avalon Peninsula drop dramatically into the sea, providing a strategic view of the 'Narrows'—the thin entrance to the city's sheltered harbour.
