Sigil T-Shirt

As a child I chose comic books over "real" books until my Dad had the great idea to give me a "Prince Valiant" comic book that had more text in it than what I was used to before and spoke to my interest for the Middle Ages. The rest is legend as they say. I was hooked for life. Sitting in a corner and reading was what I usually did, even during family gatherings. But it was more than the texts. I always related to their graphic renderings, the lettering, these intricate symbols transporting life. The smell of paper and book bindings. Burying myself in heaps of history and fiction, and always having an eye for those letters and their cultural ramifications. Somehow, I was drawn to Asian cultures and their sophisticated use of letters and icons. The culture of refined paper. Stamps, seals, glyphs. Also, following my esoteric vein, the secret and elaborate signs developed during the Middle-Ages and used by Renaissance magicians like John Dee have been a continuous source of fascination for me. Add to this a flavour of lore from ancient cultures like the Egyptians. As well as the symbolism of European Paganism. Being arrogant enough to try to add a bit of Mark Rothko style to these visuals and thus contrasting ancient and modern times, this design tries to take up all of these threads.
