Shiny Tuba Slanted Perspective Brass Band Round Pillow

The flaring bell and part of a golden brass tuba, shiny and bright with reflections. The tuba is actually part of a Portuguese marching band from Montreal, who dropped by for an event with the local Portuguese community. I took this photo at a slanted angle so that the tuba looks upright, and the musicians are somewhat slanted. The other band members make a lively background. Tubas are generally made of brass, which is an alloy of copper and tin, that polishes up to a warm soft gold glow. The bass tuba was invented in Prussia (Germany) in 1835; the son of one of the inventors went on to patent the tenor tuba in 1838. So, it's hardly surprising that the tuba is found throughout traditional music such as the polka, and for Oktoberfest celebrations. The tuba is the largest wind instrument, and has the deepest pitch.
