Shiny Tuba Slanted Perspective Brass Band Postcard
A shiny gold brass tuba with colourful highlights, photo taken at a slanted angle to give the tuba a horizontal perspective. You can personalize this with your own message, or if you don't want text, simply remove it from the text box on the product page. This is a Portugeuse brass marching band from Montreal, visiting the Portuguese community here in Hull (Gatineau) Quebec, Canada. The Portuguese church is across the park from my place so I get treated to beautiful church bells. This is part of a procession which involved a statue of the Virgin Mary carried (slowly and carefully) on a litter of flowers from the church, around several blocks and back again. Most Portugeuse residents here are Catholic. Personally, I just adore brass bands, horn sections, saxophones and especially tubas. This group had an awesome percussion section too. I love this slanted sideways photo which gives the tuba a horizontal perspective. I also added a filter to bring out some of the superb bright warm colours. You can see some reflections of people, houses and the immediate environment in the flared bell of the tuba. You can also see background musicians and a music book with the name of the Portuguese Philharmonic on it. This is a great pic for anyone who loves music, especially the tuba; intersesting band shots, musical instruments, brass instruments; perfect for musicians, music teachers or students, tuba players; anyone involved in or interested in Portuguese culture; friends, family, music lovers of all ages.
An impressive musical instrument, the first tuba was patented in the early 19th century and saw many evolutions since then. Brass is usually the first choice for instrument material; brass is a blend of copper and zinc with a rich golden colour that can be polished to a warm patina. Someone who plays a tuba is called a tubaist or tubist in the US; in Britain, one who plays tuba in an orchestra is a tuba player; in a brass band, a bass player. The bass tuba was invented by a pair of Prussians (northern Germany) in 1835; the tenor tuba by the son of one of the original inventors, in 1838.

Original photo M Sylvia Chaume, Hull, Quebec, Canada.
