Shepherd With His Sheep Watching the Sea Mug

This design features a painting by the French Neo-Impressionist artist Maximilien Luce (1858–1941). It shows a shepherd relaxing on a sunny mountainside in the south of France during the summer months. The shepherd is lying down on the hill as he looks down at the beautiful city below and the harbour with its dark blue sea; there are sailing boats on the water and distant mountains rising up to the horizon on the opposite coast. The sky is a clear light blue, reflecting the warm sunlight streaming down. Beside the shepherd are two black sheepdogs, and his flock of sheep are grazing in the surrounding field. The city that can be seen below the shepherd's hill is Saint-Tropez, which is west of Nice and west of Marseille. The original artwork was painted circa 1905 or 1906.
