Shagreen Beige Luggage Tag

Stingray or sharkskin in its untanned form has been coloured for use on furniture or ornaments since the days of the Shoguns when it was used in Japan on the handles of swords. With its scratchy, rough feel it has also been used as an abrasive, much like sand paper. Shagreen was used to its full beautiful effect in the heyday of the Art Deco movement when it was used on bureaux, boxes, tables, chairs—even cigarette cases and make-up cases. Expensive and difficult to harvest given its origins, shagreen is a much-prized skin denoting elegance and chic style. It is often seen in its natural colourings of beige, brown and grey.
