Surrounding the Hebrew letters "Bereishit"-- the Hebrew word for "In the beginning" or simply, the Hebrew name for the Book of Genesis -- are symbols of the seven days of Creation, with motifs that blend into the surrounding embroidery. From bottom right: Day 1: Light and Darkness; Day 2: Waters and Heaven; Day 3: Vegetation (the pomegranate); Day 4: Sun, Moon, and Stars; Day 5: Birds and Creeping things (here, a bird, whose crest is repeated into the pattern); Day 6: Animals and Humans (a squirrel); Day 7: The Sabbath, represented by a flowing, harmonious pattern.
