Seven Coloured Earths Mauritius Postcard

The Seven Coloured Earths of Chamarel is a rare geological phenomenon consisting of sand dunes in seven distinct colours, including a prominent and striking shade of purple. These dunes were formed from the decomposition of volcanic rock into clay, which then cooled at different temperatures to create the variegated hues seen today. What makes this site truly remarkable is that the colours never mix; even after heavy tropical rains, the sands settle back into their distinct layers of purple, violet, blue, and red. Surrounded by lush tropical greenery and near the towering Chamarel Waterfall, the dunes look like a surreal, multicolored tapestry laid out across the earth.
