There is no shrine tradition regarding Togakushi Shrine's use of this as its crest, but since it is in the same province as Suwa Shrine, it may be based on its relationship with the shrine. Originally, a scythe was considered almost a sacred object at Suwa Shrine; for example, at Suwa Shrines in Satsuma, Osumi, and three other provinces, a scythe is generally enshrined as a sacred object.
