Schenectady Steeples 2015 Calendar
Schenectady, New York, often known as "The Electric City," has had a strong religious presence for nearly 350 years. The abundance of churches today -- some continuously active, some empty, some re-purposed for other uses -- is proudly announced by the dominating presence of their steeples. When walking, driving, or otherwise travelling along the city streets, one cannot escape their presence. These photographs by native upstate author and historian Richard Vang include towering steeples, unique steeples, little steeples -- even missing steeples -- along with a couple of secular examples that add to the character of Schenectady's urban landscape. Vang's lens captures the sometimes breathtaking beauty and the history that these remarkable structures proclaim, providing us with a brief glimpse of the small frontier settlement that grew into an industrial powerhouse, and of the thriving religious life that still binds the community together. Firstly, I gave my mom a rescued bengal cat this past spring and I have been taking photos for her of her cat Maya. Instead of simply developing the photos and sending these to her by mail as we do not live close to one another, I let my imagination soar with Zazzle, added the best photos for the calender and added fun quotes to embelish each photo. Yes, it took time and a bit of effort, but if you had heard her intense delight to the calendar, gushing about the wuality of the print, the paper and how well made the calendar is, even her saying "not even one hundred dollars would not have made me happier than I am now. This is the perfect way to start my day and now I can show my cat to everyone when I leave the house!". I know she will bring it with her over the holidays to brag.
So if you are seeking an original gift, made with a bit of effort on your part if you plan ahead, I cannot think of a better way to do this. Make a calendar and let your imagination soar and surprise gift aomeone you care about! Beautifully printed, photos came out quite professional and the black and white print in my calendar is 100% quality.
