Sangre de Cristo Mountains (1925) by EL Blumenschein is a vintage American West fine art landscape and daily life painting. The Sangre de Cristo mountains (Spanish for "Blood of Christ") are the southernmost subrange of the Rocky Mountains. About the artist: Ernest Leonard Blumenschein (1874-1960) was an American artist. In 1897, during a Western trip he came to Taos, a territory of New Mexico. Struck by the sweeping landscapes and the diverse Native American, Spanish-American, and American cultures of the region, he determined then and there to work as a painter. He was a co-founder of the Taos Society of Artists and part of the Taos art colony which from 1898 was an important part of the life of Taos, New Mexico.
