Deception or Samson and Delilah. This allegorical scene is loosely based on the famous Bible story of notorious woman’s betrayal. Delilah had been given a great sum of money from the Samson enemies to find out the secret of his incredible strength. Delilah discovered eventually that he would lose his strength with the loss of his hair. Her figure, one of several treacherous temptresses in the Hebrew Bible, has become emblematic: Samson loved Delilah, she betrayed him, and, what is worse, she did it for money. Delilah has become the eponym of a "Delilah", a deceitful and cunning femme fatale.
