Salmonberry, Unalaska Island Postcard

Salmonberries (Rubus spectabilis) grow wild all over Unalaska Island. The bushes bloom in late May and the berries are ready to pick in August. Salmonberries have a flavour similar to pomegranates and they are good in jellies and as a wine. Salmonberry bushes are found along the coast of Alaska and in the eastern Aleutian Islands.
