The Saint John Festa in Porto, (Festa de São João) Portugal, is a celebration that combines tradition, culture, and a profound sense of community. It's all about getting together and having fun. There are many traditions to observe but one is to decorate the streets and windows. Another is eating grilled sardines, another is hitting people, even strangers, on the head with a hammer that makes a peculiar sound. And another is to buy basil. São João is celebrated on the 24th of June, with the night of the 23rd to the 24th being spent on the street in great excitement that involves the entire city.
