This design features a painting by the Italian Renaissance painter Caravaggio (1571–1610). It shows Saint Jerome writing in his study. It has been suggested that Jerome is depicted here in the act of translating the Vulgate, the Latin Bible. The painting is generally dated to 1605–1606, and it is located in the Galleria Borghese in Rome.
