Saint Francis preaching to the birds CC1164 Postcard

Saint Francis preaching to the birds, painted by German artist Johann Anton Ramboux in 1808. The model of the painting is fresco number 15 in The Saint Francis cycle in the Upper Church of San Francesco at Assisi. The fresco cycle is dated between 1297-1300 and traditionally attributed to Giotto di Bondone. Ramboux's painting shows the preaching Saint Francis, another monk brother, and the listening birds against a bright blue background.
