Miraculous Translation of the Body of Saint Catherine of Alexandria to Sinai (1860) by Karl von Blaas After her martyrdom by the imperial Romans, her body was carried by angels to a mountaintop in Sinai, near where Moses had received Ten Commandments. Almost four hundred years later, monks discovered her uncorrupted body. Saint Catherine was a noble girl from Alexandria in the 4th century. She was educated in philosophy, rhetoric, poetry, music, mathematics, astronomy, and medicine. She was renowned for her beauty, her aristocratic birth, and her wide learning. Saint Catherine was tortured on a wheel by the Emperor Maxentius for refusing to renounce her Christian faith. The wheel broke and Catherine was eventually beheaded instead. Saint Catherine is the patron saint of students, teachers, philosophers, unmarried women, and apologists.
