Saint Augustine, Augustine of Hippo, original Latin name Aurelius Augustinus, was a theologian and philosopher of Berber origin and the bishop of Hippo Regius in Numidia, Roman North Africa. Born: November 13, 354 AD, Thagaste Died: August 28, 430 AD. Augustine of Hippo was canonized in 1303 by Pope Boniface VIII. He is the patron saint of brewers, printers, and theologians. He worked endlessly to convert the people of Hippo to Christianity. He left his monastery, but continued to lead a monastic life in the Episcopal Residence. Because of his leaving his monastery and becoming Bishop, he has been designated as the patron saint of “regular clergy St. Augustine.
