Sacagawea Statue, Fort Clatsop, Astoria, Oregon Tile

Outside the visitor centre at Fort Clatsop is a statue of Sacagawea with her baby on her back. Sacagawea was a Lemhi Shoshone woman who helped the Lewis & Clark expedition & is a vital woman in American history. The original Fort Clatsop was where Lewis & Clark made camp during the winter of 1805-1806 near the mouth of the Columbia River. This was their last encampment before returning East from their exploration. The replica fort shows how the Corps of Discovery lived during their time here. The visitor centre shows an interpretive centre full of history of the Lewis & Clark Trail. Photo taken March 2016.
