Russian Orthodox Church Southern View Postcard

This Russian Orthodox church is located in downtown Unalaska City, Alaska. The church and the community are located on Unalaska Island, which is a part of the Aleutian Islands. This Russian Orthodox church has been designated as a historical site by the State of Alaska because it was built in the 1790's and has survived intact, in spite of the bombing of the island during WWII. This photo offers a view of the south side of the church, taken from across the Illiuliuk river, which flows through downtown Unalaska City. The snow-covered mountain in the background is Ballyhoo Mountain.
