Russian Orthodox Church in Summer with Fireweed Postcard

The Russian Orthodox church was built on Unalaska Island in the 1790's when the City of Unalaska was only an Unangan village in the Aleutian Islands. The church has been designated a historical site on the Island of Unalaska and it still serves as a place of worship for the Unangan people who are native to the Aleutian Islands. The church's onion dome bell towers are typical of Russian architecture, as well as the ornate arched gateway which allows entrance into the church's yard which is enclosed by a white picket fence. The magenta coloured flowers in front of the church are fireweed (Epilobium angustifolium), which is a member of the Evening primrose family.
