Rural America Red Barn Tapestry

This beautiful red barn is from an old farm in Georgia, in the Southern USA. Many barns in rural America are red because farmers used to add ferrous oxide (rust powder) to an old paint recipe of linseed oil, which gave barns a deep orange-red colour. The ferrous oxide accentuated the redness to a burnt red tone. Nowadays, to follow the tradition, even new barns are painted red, though with a brighter colour more akin to fire engine red.
