Round Uchiwa Tile
The uchiwa fan has three different shapes. The first is the gunbai uchiwa, which is an oval shape, and the handle is attached to the lower edge and extends to the upper edge, or not. The second is what we commonly use in the summer, and is typically made by splitting the upper part of a bamboo handle and spreading it out radially, then attaching paper or fabric to the resulting framework. The shape is circular, oval, or trapezoidal. The third is the haneuchiwa, which is made by attaching bird feathers to the tip of a handle. (from "Japanese Crest Studies" by Raisuke Numata)
