Maru ni Sumitate Izutsu

Maru ni Sumitate Izutsu is a family crest (kamon) that is said to have originated from the design of a well's framework. The well's framework was initially called 'igeta' for a square shape and 'izutsu' for a circular shape, but over time, the terms were swapped. The well was considered a sacred place where spirits dwelled, and it was used as a symbol of faith. The earliest recorded use of this crest is found in the 'Kenmon Shoka Mon', where it is associated with the Ii clan. Families with the character '井' (i) in their surname often adopted this crest.
