【Maru ni Seigaiha】The Seigaiha pattern was popular during the Edo period (1603-1867). It is said to have been designed by Urushi craftsman Kansai Seigai in the Genroku era (1688-1704). 'Seigaiha' is the name of a piece of Gagaku (traditional Japanese court music); dancers wear a garment called shitagasane no ho with the Seigaiha pattern when performing this piece. The pattern consists of layered waves that are divided into four parts. Kansai Seigai popularized this pattern during the Bunroku era (1592-1596).
