Role of Fate by Walter Crane Postcard
This painting “The Role of Fate” was done in 1882 by English artist and book illustrator Walter Crane (1845-1915). The painting was inspired by the follow verses from The Rubaiyat of Omar Kayyam. “The Roll of Fate Would that some winged angel ere too late Arrest the yet unfolded Roll of Fate, And make the stern Recorder otherwise Enregister, or quite obliterate!' Ah love! Could you and I with him conspire To grasp this sorry scheme of things entire, Would we not shatter it to bits - and then Remould it nearer to the heart's desire!” It is our Men in Art Series no. 233.
