Rock a Bye Baby Orangutan Postcard

Shhhh baby sleeping. This cute infant orangutan sleeps in some rainforest shade while older baby orangutans practice their jungle skills. Check out the hairdo on this little great ape. It takes many years of nurturing care before these orphans can be released into protected areas of the rainforest, for in the wild, orangutans stay with their mothers for 7 or 8 years, even when other siblings are born. Orangutans are an endangered species. They are gentle and peaceful creatures with a diet of fruits and vegetation. Unlike gorillas or chimpanzee, these red apes exist in the wild only on the islands of Borneo and (to a lesser extent) Sumatra. Rebecca Reeder is a volunteer with orangutan orphan rescue and rehabilitation. The artist donates all of her profits from her orangutan photos as par of her support for conservation work to save orangutans from extinction.
