It is a member of the Velvet catfishes family and is native to Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Nepal, Bangladesh and Myanmar. It inhabits rivers and estuaries, preferably muddy to clear water and prefers backwater of quiet eddies. It feeds on insects, mollusks, shrimps and fishes. It can reach a maximum length of 150 cm (59 inches).
