Ripples on Sand Bar with Dried Mud III - Colour Poster

This composition shows current ripples on the surface of a sand bar in the Cimarron River near Coyle, Oklahoma. The ripples formed in response to increased water velocity shortly after a rainfall event in the Cimarron River watershed. These ripples were initially covered with a thin layer of mud that settled from suspension as the flow velocity of the water decreased with time. Once emergent, the layer of mud on top of the ripples quickly dried and curled into mud flakes.
