Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ, Easter Icon Holiday Card
The icon depicts the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the point of view of the Roman soldiers who were guarding the tomb after the Crucifixion. Christ exits the tomb, still wearing the funeral cloth while two angels are worshipping Him. The soldiers are afraid and can hardly look upon the miracle which is revealed before their eyes. The scene is a western representation of the Resurrection. The more traditional orthodox version is Christ's descent into Hades.
