Red-shouldered Hawk (Buteo lineatus) In Canada, this species is established in the Provinces of southern Ontario and southwestern Quebec. South of the 49th parallel, the United States of America hosts a significant population. With the approach of Autumn, birds across the 2 nations migrate, seeking more favourable locations for the duration of Winter. These Hawks install a new territorial front. Enduring the elements, they remain in eastern Counties of the State of Kansas and central regions of the State of Missouri. Along the Ohio River and beyond, throughout the Ohio River Valley, Red-shouldered Hawks familiarize themselves with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, the State of Ohio, State of West Virginia, the Commonwealth of Kentucky, State of Indiana and State of Illinois. Travelling northeast, they also seek shelter in the States of New York, Connecticut and Rhode Island. Their last Northern frontier for Winter quarters is the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. There are others among them in smaller numbers, that leave the U.S.A., crossing the border into the United Mexican States. As Winter begins it's final retreat, all of these adventurers will migrate North, back to their waiting nesting domains.
