Red roses are a traditional symbol of love, romance and fidelity. And this wonderful quote from President Abraham Lincoln reminds us to enjoy the world with an optimistic heart and to see every glass as half full. "We can complain because rose bushes have thorns, or rejoice because thorn bushes have roses." What a beautiful sentiment to send to a loved one, dear friend, or someone who needs some encouragement or a lift? And what a nice thing to send for Valentine's Day. I photographed this exquisite red rose at the Hillwood Estate, Museum and Gardens in Washington, DC., whose enormous and meticulously landscaped gardens span 25 acres and are justly renowned for their magnificent roses.
