Red Poppies at Dusk Poster Print

This photograph of brilliant red poppies at dusk is to me indescribably sad and poignant. Sad because each November in the UK the red poppy can be seen everywhere on people’s lapels when it comes into its own as the symbol of remembrance of the war dead. With so many current wars around the world, it is particularly poignant. The sepia tinted clouds in the background add a sombreness to the photograph, and the dark red speaks of needlessly spilled blood. Despite this, the sheer vibrancy of the red poppies inspires hope. There is also a touch of pink in the clouds to raise the spirits, and make one think of new beginnings. The poppies were photographed in my garden in Glasgow, Scotland, UK, Europe.
