"Red Midge" Wet Fly Fly-Fishing Poster

This image was taken from my original open edition lino print; which I printed in several colours. Many years ago, I taught myself to fly fish using books and videos. My casting was (and is) so bad that I had to teach my self to tie flies so I would have more to replace the ones I left in the trees. I'm not sure my tying and fishing skills have improved much but my love for the sport has certainly grown. It was only natural that I begin creating art related to the sport. I have a true love - hate relationship with midges. When trout are taking them they are wonderful to have, but aging eyes and arthritic hands make tying the tiny flies and attaching them to a tippet really difficult. Drawing, painting or printing them in the studio is much more enjoyable! Except of course when the trout are going mad for them.
