Louis Sargent illustrator, from "My First Book of Animals" by Lena Dalkeith, c. 1918. The red-faced spider monkey, aka the Guiana spider monkey, is a species of spider monkey found in the rain forests of northern South America with a pink face and black fur. Because of its ability to climb and jump, this monkey tends to live in the upper layers of the rainforest and forages in the high canopy. This monkey faces extinction due to hunting and habitat loss and is listed as vulnerable.
