Its hair is long and reddish-brown, the colour distinguishing it from the brown or black hair typical of other great apes. Though this orangutan is in a grass clearing they actually prefer trees. Orangutans are the largest of the arboreal (tree-living) animals. They are found, in the wild, only in the rain forests of Indonesia and Malaysia. There are only two species remaining and both are endangered - the Bornean Orangutan and the Sumatran Orangutan.
