This gorgeous gift mug for lovers of classical Italian Renaissance art features an oil painting of possibly the two most famous cherubs in the world. By the Italian painter and architect Raphael (1483 - 1520) the two winged angels resting on their elbows as they gaze upwards are part of a larger painting of the Madonna and child called "Sistine Madonna," or "The Madonna de San Sisti." Legend has it that Raphel, born Raffaello Sanzio, took his inspiration from the child models he used for the painting. Others say his inspiration for the cherubs were the faces of two young children he saw looking longingly at a baker's shop window! The mug would make the perfect gift for lovers of Renaissance art, and angels!

I was originally happy about my purchase and Nana loved the gift. HOWEVER, the description specifically says that these are microwave and dishwasher safe, BUT the first time Nana put this mug in the dishwasher it was destroyed. Not impressed..
