Winston Churchill, who had served under Queen Victoria, said that "great have been the reigns of England's queens" when celebrating the accession of Elizabeth II. This design celebrates all six of England's queens regnant (queens who have ruled in their own right, rather than just being the wives of kings). The front features queens Mary I, Elizabeth I, Mary II, Anne, Victoria, and Elizabeth II. The back features Churchill's quote, along with disputed queens Matilda and Jane Grey (Matilda's throne was usurped by her cousin Stephen, while Jane ruled for only nine days.)
