Puzzle 1000 pcs La « belle Irlandaise » représentée dans ce tableau est Joanna Hiffernan (née en 1842/43), maîtresse et modèle de l'artiste James McNeill Whistler (1834-1903), et peut-être par la suite l'amante de Courbet. Bien que daté de 1866, le tableau a probablement été réalisé en 1865, lorsque les deux hommes ont peint ensemble dans la station balnéaire française de Trouville ; Courbet a écrit « la beauté d'une superbe rousse dont j'ai commencé le portrait ». Il peindrait trois répétitions avec des variations mineures.
