Purple Diamonds Abstract was created from a tiny watercolor painting. Part of the magic of watercolor is its capacity to surprise. Spread a wet wash on paper and drop colours into the wash. Either mix them or let them mix themselves. Prepare to be pleasantly surprised or bummed if you have inadvertently made mud. Similarly, in Photoshop, open an image, click on "image/adjustments" and experiment. Prepare for pleasant surprises and hideous messes. Be sure to save your original. Have fun. "Purple Diamonds" came out of "Brown Squares" through a series of clicks that I didn't record and couldn't repeat.
