Pretty Primate Smiles like Mommy Postcard

Sorry, folks. I looked so hideous at the end of a long day in the rain forest that I had to smear my face and crop out my hair. Plus, this story isn't meant to be about me. I wanted to share with you this heart-touching moment. This little female orphan wanted a mommy, and she tried to copy everything humans did and clung (desperately, at times) to me, trying to claim me as hers. Shortly after I gave her a sip of my water, she turned and looked at me, then she turned back to the camera as she copied my smile -exactly. Our smiles match, but Krista, the orangutan, is the prettier of the two here! <br/> <br/> Let me stress, however, Great Apes do not make good pets. It is no life for them in the long run either. As infants, people try to turn them into humans. But orangutans (and all apes) are tremedously strong. They are great athletes and need to live in the wild! As they become older (in other words-- destructive to human homes), many people resort to chaining them up or locking them in cages. It's a miserable life for such intelligent creatures. <br/> <br/>Should you, for any reason, want to buy this postcard, it does benefit the orphan orangutans!
