Postcard: Two Setters by Arthur Wardle Postcard

"Two Setters" was painted by Arthur Wardle (1864-1949), who was one of the finest Victorian painters of dogs. This English Setter canine painting is a wonderful example of his talent and expertise. Along with dogs, Wardle also loved wild animals and created an extensive body of artwork throughout his life. His first painting was shown at the Royal Academy of Arts in London when he was only 16 years old. He was completely self-taught. He painted many purebred champion dogs and was widely collected throughout Europe and America. Many of his original canine paintings can be seen today at the American Kennel Club Museum of the Dog. It has been suggested that he was so familiar with the dog breed standards, that he would often improve upon their appearance
