Postcard: "The Apparition [Ghost]" Postcard
"The Apparition" depicts Salome and the head of John the Baptist. It's an oil on canvas and it was painted by the French Symbolist painter Gustave Moreau , 1874-76.
Moreau created over 8,000 oil paintings, watercolors and sketches throughout his life, his focus being intense romantic mythological images, detailed and jewel-like. He painted literary ideas and was at the forefront of the Symbolist movement. In 1892 he became a professor at the Ecole des Beaux-Art. Among his students were Matisse and Roualt.
