Postcard - ILLINOIS

Postcard - ILLINOIS

If you are looking for an exciting destination, Illinois should certainly be on the list. It's not so much the landscape . . . Illinois is almost perfectly flat. In fact, the highest point in the state sits atop one family's driveway. Literally. It's the point highest above sea level. The residents have embraced the humour and the irony and there are weekends that they put out lawn chairs for visitors to sit and "enjoy the view". Illinois is not without a sense of humour. It's home to the world's largest bottle of catsup and there's a "fire-breathing dragon" in Vandalia. If animals are your thing, it might interest you to know that the Lincoln Park Zoo, in Chicago, (at this time) still does not charge admission and is the nation's oldest public zoo. The first aquarium opened, also in Chicago, in 1893. Sometimes called "The Prairie State" or "The Garden of the West" or "The Corn State", the official state nickname, "Land of Lincoln" was adopted in 1955. Of course, Lincoln wasn't born in Illinois -- although he did live there. However, the 40th President of the United States, Ronald Reagan, WAS born in Illinois and (ironically) called California, "Home". Illinois became the 21st state on December 3, 1818. This wonderful design pays homage to this marvellous state. The state outline is filled with the state flower, violets. The name, Illinois, is offered in a dimensional, silvery green; while the state nickname "Land of Lincoln" really pops in a purple violet. These delightful postcards can be purchased before your vacation so you lose no time searching for them and can concentrate on all the beauty around you. Pair with the matching postage stamps for even more impressive presentation.
