Postcard

Adria Palota, Budapest. Built in 1900-02 and designed by Arthur Meinig. From its ornate decorative features, use of classical aspects such as the Corinthian column, the symmetrical layout, decorative metal features of the roof, I would classify this building as an eclectic mix of neo classical, Neo-Baroque and Neo Renaissance architecture so for me, it reminds me mostly of Beaux-Arts. As the building housed the Adria Royal Hungarian Sea Navigation Company much of the decorative stucco sculptural work includes shell like features and harpoons. These elements were designed by Antal Szabó. The decorative feature of the central facade is in fact, the bow of a ship. The metal grills in front of the doors and windows were designed by Gyula Jungfer. Random fact, this building featured in Die Hard 5 among other films!
