Portuguese Pottery Magnet

Clay and Glass always have been materials used by artisans in Portugal. Portugal is now in the frontline of quality and recognition for such a long development in these areas. Leiria with the glassworks, Alentejo and Caldas da Rainha as the centre for clay and pottery kilns are three of the major areas where Portugal develops these unique works of art. Among many we have chosen the traditional Pottery from S. Pedro Corval, due to its pastoral compositions and unique padrons. We still can find a big tradicional pottery centre in S. Pedro Corval (Alentejo) wich is considered the largest in the country with 26 kilns in operation. The Kilns of S. Peter Corval date of its existence, at least, the period of Arab rule, around 1276. Being a true mirror of rural life and ancient customs, pottery of S. Peter Corval has unique decorative effect, imposing itself naturally by the beauty of the compositions.
