Portrait of Maj. General Ambrose Burnside Poster

This is a colorized photo from a vintage, black and white image of Major General Ambrose Burnside. It also appears in "The Generals at Fredericksburg" calendar available at Zazzle. Burnside was a colonel of militia at the start of the Civil War, and eventually reached the rank of Major–General in the Union army. He was involved in multiple engagements including the first battle of Bull Run, the battles of Roanoke Island, New Bern, Antietam, South Mountain, Fredericksburg, the Wilderness, Spotsylvania Court House, North Anna, Cold Harbour and the Crater (Petersburg). After the war he became the Governor of Rhode Island and later the United States Senator for Rhode Island. In 1881, while still senator, Burnside died at the age of 57. This is a 3/4 face portrait of the general in a blue uniform, with gold buttons, gold insignia and a black background.
